How Wonderful to Pick Up Your Adopted Dog in Portugal yourself!

If you’re planning to adopt a dog and want to give them the best possible start, what could be more special than picking them up yourself in Portugal? This hands-on approach not only helps your dog prepare for the journey to their new home but also eases their transition into a new and unfamiliar environment.

Adopt a Dog Holiday Portugal

Having lived in central Portugal for over 30 years, I’ve built strong connections with several small-scale, trustworthy rescue organizations in the area.

Together with you, I’ll carefully search for the dog that best matches your personality, lifestyle, and preferences.

Once you’re here, you’ll have the chance to meet your chosen dog in a calm and serene environment. At our Quinta, you’ll enjoy the stunning natural surroundings, take the time to bond with your new companion, and prepare both yourself and your dog for the upcoming journey and their new life with you.

During your stay, I’ll guide you and your dog through every step of this unique process, ensuring you both feel confident and ready for the next chapter.

Once you’re back home in the Netherlands or Belgium, you’ll have access to a network of specialists who, like me, are dedicated to working in a dog- and human-friendly way. They’ll be there to support you as needed.

If you live in Portugal, I’ll be available to assist you further once you’ve brought your new dog home.

How Does Adopt a Dog Holiday Work?

Here’s how it works:

Finding the Right Dog
  • We’ll have one or more video calls to explore which dog(s) from my local area would be the best fit for you.

  • I’ll visit the dog(s) and present you with one or more recommendations. If you already have a dog in mind, I’ll gather more information about them during my visit.

  • Once you’ve fallen in love with a dog and had time to consider all the information I’ve shared, I’ll reserve the dog for you and ensure he receives the required rabies vaccination in time for travel.

  • If you prefer to choose a dog yourself once you’re in Portugal, please note that you may not be able to take the dog across the border within three weeks due to the mandatory rabies vaccination waiting period. However, if you live in Portugal, this won’t be an issue..
Staying in Portugal with Your Dog
  • Book a flight to Portugal, making sure to reserve a spot for your dog on the return journey, or plan your trip by car or camper.

  • Arrange your accommodation, either at our cottage Casinha da Quinta or another suitable place nearby. You can also bring a camper or choose to camp.

  • Once you’re here, we’ll pick up your dog together and ensure all travel documents, vaccinations, and health certificates are in order.

  • The holiday home is equipped with everything you and your dog might need for a comfortable and safe stay. You’ll also find a selection of helpful books for you and your dog.

  • There’s a fenced play area for your dog, and you can enjoy peaceful walks directly from the Quinta.

  • During your stay, I’ll be available every day to guide and support you and your dog as wanted.
Returning Home
  • Any travel essentials, like safety harnesses or a transport crate, can be purchased from me at regular retail prices.

  • I’ll provide you with plenty of helpful information for when you’re back home, including referrals to specialists near you who, like me, are dog- and human-friendly and experienced with rescue dogs. If you live near me in Portugal, I’ll be happy to assist you further.

  • Finally, I’ll wish you a safe journey and lots of happiness with your new companion!
